An active learning process requires freedom. With COOL, students and teachers learn to fully realize their potential. Learning is a process through which new things are integrated into existing cognitive structures. Changes occur in the brain only through activities performed by the learners. The increasing complexity in our society requires more freedom regarding this learning process.

Depending on the implementation of the COOL concept, students are thus able to decide for themselves within a given framework:

What, how, where, how long, and with whom will I learn?

Teachers stimulate freedom by opening their classes and taking advantage of all the opportunities for freedom that the educational system offers.

For these schools, increased freedom is critical to the mission of becoming a true learning organization.
